         Fortaleza, November 06, 2011.

Dear Host Family and Host Club,

I'm Mariana Correia, I'm fifteen an I live in Fortaleza/CE, Brazil. I was born in Recife/PE, but when I was 1 year old, I moved to Rio de Janeiro/RJ, where I spent 6 years, than I moved to Teresina/PI, and spent 2 and a half years, than Natal/RN, 3 and a half years, and, now, I live in Fortaleza, about 3 years.
Ceará is known for its beautiful beaches like Jericoacoara, Canoa Quebrada and Cumbuco which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and for being the the "Land of humor", because in the state are several comedy shows and the best comedians of Brasil, Tom Cavalcante, Chico Anysio and Renato Aragão, are all from Ceará. In the state were born José de Alencar and Rachel de Queiroz, writers of international renown. And Ceará was the first state to abolish slavery  in Brazil.
Fortaleza is the capital of Ceará, so, it's a big city, with about 2.5 million inhabitants. The economy of Fortaleza has the most revenue out of its diversified establishments. There are several malls in the city, such as Iguatemi, Via Sul, Norte Shopping, Del Passeio... There are several industries and some of the major food industries in the country have their headquarters in Fotaleza, as MDias Branco e J Macêdoque, the major flour mills in Brazil.
I live in the neighborhood Edson Queiroz, an area with Plenty of growth in the city, in a condo. In my house, live my parents, Naldo Pires and Nicéa Correia, my sister, Marcela Ferreira, my dog, Kika, and I.  I have my own bedroom, so I don't need to share it with my sister.
(...) As I don't work my obligations are doing the dishes and tidy up my room. If I do everything right, I get some money in the end of the month, and I'm saving that money to buy a Semi-Pro digital camera to record every moment of my exchange.
My daily routine, on weekdays, it's wake up at a half past six. Then, at ten past seven I go to school with my neighbors. My School is only 5 blocks from my house, so I get there in two minutes. (...) Later it's my free time. What I usually do is watch soap operas or movies, listen to music, surf on the net, play with my dog, sleep, read a book...  (...)
On weekends, my routine is different. Saturday, I wake up at half past seven, and at eight o'clock I go to my drama class. The class starts at a half past eight and finish ate a half past twelve. I come back home, than I have lunch. After, it's my free time. I usually hang out with my friends or family, dance, or I do the same things that I do on weekdays. Saturday i go to bed latter, usually at two or three o'clock. On Sunday, I wake up late, usually between eleven to two o'clock. And I go to bed at eleven o'clock.
Next year my daily routine will change, because I will go to a more advanced class at School and the classes are at afternoon. And, I will graduate at English in the end of this year, so I don't need to go any more to the English class.
The school year, here, in Brazil, begins in early February and finish in late November, and we have a break of thirty day in July. In school, we can't choose our subjects. All the students in the same grade do the same subjects. And we don't change the classroom according to the subject, the teacher who comes and goes through the classrooms. The grades are divided into 2 or more classes and each class has one classroom. The class of all subjects last fifth minutes, and we have six classes per day. The subjects re the same during all year. This year, my subjects are Biology I and II, Physics, Chemistry, Algebra, Trigonometry, Grammar, Literature, Textual Interpretation, Writing class, Geography, History, Philosophy, English and Physical Education. My favorite subjects are Math, Philosophy and Geography.
I love drama, numbers and things relate to nature, so, when I grown up I intend to be actress or environmental engineer, I don't know yet. I do drama class since 2006, and I've acted in several plays. And I know the even thought I won't be actress, the lessons will help me a lot in any career, in my day-to-day and in my Exchange.
I've traveled twice out of the country, both times to the United States, in 2008 and 2011. On the first time, my parents and I went to pick my sister up who was doing an Exchange to Missouri, we knew her host family and then we went to Florida by car to go to the Disneyland, Universal Studios, and others amusements parks. We spent 20 days there. One the second time, was my 15th birthday gift, I just went with my friends on a trip to Florida. We spent 15 days.
I love animals, so I don't have any problems If my host family has a pet. And in related to food, I don't like fruits and vegetables, but I'm trying to change my eating habits, because I know that is important to my healthy, so maybe at the time of my exchange I'm already eating some. I don't like coconut, peeper, tomato sauce, ketchup and mustard. I love chocolate, rice, beans, pizza, spaghetti, popcorn, French fries, chicken nuggets, meat, brigadeiro, pão de queijo, hamburger...
I think a strong point in my personality is my charisma, I'm always happy, I'm loving, intelligent and sincere. A weak point is to be lazy and a little bit disorganized, but i'm working to change that.
In my opnion, the main purpose to live abroad is the possibility to exchanging knowledge and culture of my home country, Brazil, and the host country. I will have the responsibility to represent the Fortaleza, Ceará and Brazil, showing to you our culture, politics and economics, making you take a new vision of Brazil. The program will give me many others benefits, like learning to speak a new language fluently, which is part pf the country's culture, gain more responsibility, maturity, becoming more independent, make new friends, a new family, and others... What I think contributes greatly to the formation of a citizen. So, that is what I hope for my exchange, I hope to have an unforgettable experience. See you in 2012.

Sincerely,

                Mariana Correia Pires Ferreira.

CARTA DOS MEUS PAIS

Fortaleza, November 11, 2011.

Dear Host Family and Host Club,

I'm Nicéa Branco Correia. I'm Mariana's mother. Talking about her qualities, Mari has a good relationship with all the family, of course that sometimes she has a little jealous of her sister, and that creates some conflicts, but is quickly resolved. Her relationship with her friends is the best way possible, because she is a very charismatic girl and everyone like to stay near her. She and her friends love to talk, dance and do different programs.
She is a very emotional girl, so when somebody call her attention for some reason She has a little trouble controlling her emotional, and often starts to cry, that makes her very upset, because she doesn't want to cry, but she can't control it.
Regarding the disagreement, and frustration, she can manage well and try to overcome them. The problem of Mariana, in relation to discipline, is the clutter with her things. Her criative mind is always looking for something different to do, drawing her bedroom wall, customize a notebook, in short, all kinds of arts. This is a very good side, but she makes a huge mess while is doing this arts. But she is struggling to improve.
She has a strong personality, and fight for what she wants. This can be seen throughout the process to participate in this exchange program, because she took all initiatives and she not be intimidated by the obstacles encountered. In school, she is ahead of all projects that are presented during class, because she always liked to occupy a leading place and face challenging, all with high responsibility.
Mariana, in some case proves to be very independent However, in the family she loves to show addict, but that is just too lazy to do their duty. Her maturity level, I consider within their age group.
One feature I'm most proud of my daughter, is the ease that she has to prove her love, the loving way she treats every person and, of course, I couldn't fail to mention that academic performance is excellent.
One goal of sending my daughter to this exchange is that it can grasp a new culture, become more mature and independent, because I believe that spending a year away from family, learning to live with different people, learning to speak a new language fluently, makes it becomes a more capable adult life, open to change and, of course, helping she becomes a citizen aware of her obligations, before her and before the world.
In conclusion, Mariana is an easy going person; her knack sweet conquers all around her. I believe she won't have relationship problems and she will know to enjoy this great opportunity to study in another country.

Best Regards,
